RaeLynn established a great relationship with her coach Blake Shelton on Season 2 of The Voice. Her new Baytown album features a collaboration with the country superstar. “Why I Got A Truck” is a breath of fresh air and worthy of hitting the replay button over and over again.

The Voice is all about making connections and offering artists the ability to work with the best in the business. Shelton obviously knows the formula behind making a catchy country song. RaeLynn is spunky and has been on fire with her latest releases. The pair of them singing together is pure magic.

‘The Voice’ Alum RaeLynn Releases Spunky Hit with Blake Shelton

The song starts off with Shelton talking about letting off the clutch. Even for those of us that know nothing about cars, Shelton’s country twang is everything during the intro. “Why I Got A Truck” tells the story of how some girls get extravagant cars when they turn 16. RaeLynn sings about having a truck parked in her driveway instead of an expensive car. The lyrics “I can haul ass/ I can haul hay,” are fiery and witty.

In the second verse of the song, Shelton sings about putting his truck in the shop. While driving a rental car, he longs for the day he’ll get his truck back. It’s like a love song but the object of Shelton’s affection is literally an automobile. RaeLynn and Shelton harmonize perfectly during the chorus.

The best part of “Why I Got A Truck” is the very last line. Shelton says “Hey Rae, back that thing up here.” After a pause, he clarifies, “The truck Rae, back the truck up.” Shelton and RaeLynn have always had a great sense of humor and camaraderie. That same energy is channeled into this song.

Baytown also features Mitchell Tenpenny on the song, “Get That All the Time.” The album was released under Round Here Records, the label started by Florida Georgia Line’s Tyler Hubbard and Brian Kelley. You can definitely hear some of their influences on the album. “Why I Got A Truck” has the same appeal as Florida Georgia Line’s song “Cruise” which was a tremendous success.
