Portugal striker, Cristiano Ronaldo couldn’t hold back the tears as he walked down the tunnel after his country’s world cup loss to Morocco on Saturday.
The Portuguese team were the favourites to win the game and go into the semi-final stage of the 2022 World Cup tournament in Qatar but they suffered a shock 1-0 defeat in the hands of the African team.
Morocco made history by becoming the first African nation to reach the semi-finals of the World Cup following Saturday’s 1-0 victory over Portugal courtesy of a 43rd-minute goal from Youssef En-Nesyri.
After the final whistle, Ronaldo who started the game from the bench and was only introduced in the second half, couldn’t hold back his emotions as he was captured on camera crying after his team were dumped out of the tournament.
With Portugal’s exit from this year’s World Cup, it could well mean the last World Cup for Ronaldo who is already 37 years old.
Meanwhile, following the record-making win by Morocco, the African side will square up against England or France on Wednesday for their semi-final clash and would be hoping their fairy tale at the Qatar World Cup continues.
