Cara Delevingne will make her theater debut with “Cabaret” on London’s West End.
Delevingne will play the iconic role of Sally Bowles while Luke Treadaway, Olivier winner for “The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-Time,” will play the role of the Emcee. They will replace musicians Self Esteem and Jake Shears, who have essayed the roles since September last year. Eddie Redmayne played the Emcee in 2021, with Jessie Buckley as Bowles.
One of the most successful musicals of all time, “Cabaret” is set in 1929–1930 Berlin during the dusk of the Jazz Age as the Nazis were coming to prominence. It revolves on the hedonistic nightlife at the seedy Kit Kat Klub and focuses on the American writer Clifford Bradshaw and his relationship with English cabaret performer Sally Bowles. Keeping an eye on matters is the Emcee.

Delevingne said: “There are no words to explain the excitement I have to return home to make my stage debut in such an iconic role. I am so inspired by the brilliant actors who have played Sally in past productions around the world and in this one in the West End. I cannot wait to be a part of this brilliant cast and production.”
Treadaway added: “I can’t wait to become a member of the Kit Kat Club and join this extraordinary production. It’s a huge thrill to be asked to take this on and I’m very excited to get started.”
“Cabaret” features music by John Kander, lyrics by Fred Ebb and book by Joe Masteroff. It is based on the 1951 play “I Am a Camera” by John Van Druten, which in turn was based on the 1939 novel “Goodbye to Berlin” by Christopher Isherwood. Songs include “Wilkommen,” “Don’t Tell Mama,” “Mein Herr,” “Maybe This Time,” “Money,” and the title track. The West End production is directed by Rebecca Frecknall.
Delevingne and Treadaway will commence their roles from March 11 and continue until June.
“Cabaret” is an Ambassador Theatre Group and Underbelly production at London’s Playhouse Theatre.
A Broadway transfer of the play, starring Redmayne and Gail Rankin, will open in April.
