The parking bay, according to Badi, would increase the parking capacity, thus reducing traffic and human congestion that characterise most city parking areas.

“NMS has already initiated the process of developing underground parking at Sunken Park which will also happen at Machakos Bus Park. And all these underground parking areas will be digitally controlled,” he said.

The parking bay will be similar to the one implemented by the Holy Family Basilica, which currently has a capacity of 536 from 120 cars that it accommodated previously.

The Holi Family Basilica parking lot comprises four layers underground.

“It will be affordable and once the motorists reach the parking lot, you will pay through mobile money, leave your car there and it will be parked for you in whichever floor of that building," Badi added.

According to Badi, the smart light system's shift will also see some of the street lights integrated with protection and security cameras.

Recently, NMS unveiled three new high-tech Mechanical Road Sweepers that would replace human labour in cleaning the city.

The three new machines will complement three smaller capacity scarab street sweepers, which were among the vehicles rehabilitated in the first phase.

The new development is part of plans to modernise the smart lighting system for streetlights within Nairobi county.

Michuki Park, City Park, Central and Uhuru parks, Jevanjee Gardens, Jamhuri Park and Ngong Road forest are some of the green spaces that are being targeted.
