- The COTU leader wished Ruto could have a few minutes with retired president Moi to advise him on how to become president

- Atwoli agreed the DP is a smart politician but insisted he must work with other senior politicians if he wants to lead Kenyans

- The trade unionist added Ruto must also wait for the right time to campaign and give his boss Uhuru space to serve his term

The Central Organisation of Trade Unions (COTU) Secretary General Francis Atwoli has once again poured cold water on Deputy President William Ruto's 2022 presidential bid saying the man from Sugoi will not ascend to power unless he changes his ways.

Atwoli strongly advised the DP to find good advisors to help him strategise if he is serious about succeeding President Uhuru Kenyatta in 2022, without which he can as well kiss the presidency goodbye.

Appearing on NTV, the firebrand trade unionist admitted Ruto is a shrewd and smart politician who has the potential to become the next president of Kenya, but he emphasised the DP does not have good advisors around him at the moment.

"Let him be properly advised. I wish he could have about five or 10 minutes with retired president Daniel Arap Moi to advise him on how to ascended to power," Atwoli said on Wednesday, May 15.

He argued there is more to the presidency than money and popularity and that includes working with others and recognising those who are senior than you.

"Even if you are a smart politician, you must work with others and recognise those who are ahead of you. You also need to be tactful; you cannot become president through chest-thumping," he said.

Atwoli had earlier sensationally claimed Ruto's name will not be on the ballot come 2022 and even dared Kenyans to take it to the bank.

"I want you to write this down, in 2022 we will got into an election to elect the president and it will be a very peaceful election because we shall have changed the Constitution, we shall elect the president, deputy president, prime minister and deputy prime minister. For all those you will elect, I want to tell you that the name of William Samoei Ruto will not be there, you can take that to the bank for free," he said in Lamu during a fundraiser for women's Sacco.

The vocal COTU leader, however, clarified he did not mean Ruto cannot be president when he said his name will not be on the ballot.

He reiterated the DP stands a better chance if he gets serious advisors and works closely with other senior political leaders in the country.
