Some Yoruba leaders have distanced themselves from the move by the leader of Afenifere, Ayo Adebanjo to support the Presidential candidate of the Labour Party (LP), Peter Obi in 2023.

The Yoruba Youth Congress (YYC) in its reaction to Pa Adebanjo’s stand to support Obi said his opinion is not of Afenifere or the opinion majority of Yoruba leaders.

According to YYC, the decision of Pa Adebanjo to endorse the former governor of Anambra State is his personal opinion.

The President of the group, Dapo Adepoju, in a statement released in Akure, the Ondo State capital further stated that Adebanjo has the right to support any presidential candidate in 2023.

He, however, called on Nigerians not to see the stand of the Afenifere leader as the view of the group.

Adepoju noted that youths in the region would meet to decide the presidential candidate they would support in the 2023 presidential election.

He added that the group would not support the presidential candidate of LP, Obi as against the desire of Adebanjo.

Recall that Pa Adebanjo on Friday spoke on Afenifere supporting Obi against the presidential candidate of the All Progressives Congress, Bola Tinubu who is from the region.

Adebanjo in the statement released on endorsing Obi said Tinubu will only continue the incompetence of President Muhammadu Buhari-led government.
